The problem COVINFO solves
Covinfo is a web portal for the people to use to be updated about Covid-19 daily. It helps curb fake news and also promotes reputed news articles and government initiatives. The news is summarized for viewers with our summarizer.There is also a disease predictor on the website for people to use as many doctors are unavailable to cater to people not affected by Covid-19. The predictor is equiped with covid sympotoms and gives a radar plot of your symptoms and if you match to a Covid patient. It displays a word cloud generated from data fetched and translated from an Italian medical journal to show common keywords in Covid Cases.
Challenges we ran into
Deploying the web app on Heroku was difficult since we ran into a nltk error which was used in our summarizer. We resolved it with some debugging. We tried deploying it on Google Cloud but we were'nt able to since the summarizer took too much to load. We tried developing a zulip chatbot but were'nt able to integrate it with our website so we resorted to focus on building a disease predictor. The word cloud took some time to build as we had to translate text data from Italian to English and then tokenizing the terms. We learnt to work with flask through the CodingBlocks videos. They wer very helpful!
