The problem COOLeidoscope solves
COOLeidoscope: Interactive Exoplanet Knowledge Graph Explorer
COOLeidoscope is a project developed by COOL Research Labs in collaboration with the COOL Research DAO community.
COOLeidoscope integrates spatial data and scientific metadata into a single interactive platform. At its core, it's an interactive 3D visualization using Three.js and React of the local stellar neighborhood — stars, planetary systems, orbital dynamics, and habitable zones, which might host extraterrestrial life.
Each object is a node in a knowledge graph, enriched with linked metadata — observation records, research papers, grant funding, contributors, institutions, media, art, etc. Relationships between nodes are inferred from shared projects, citations, collaborations, or observational targets.
Currently COOLeidoscope features in-depth data and knowledge graphs for Trappist-1b and Trappist-1c. Our platform is designed for community expansion, with the capability to incorporate data for additional exoplanets as it becomes available.
Users can explore the universe visually, then pivot into the knowledge graph to trace scientific activity, identify collaboration networks, and discover underexplored connections. The architecture supports modular data integration, cross-domain linking, and AI augmentation, making it generalisable far beyond astronomy — to any domain where spatial context and linked data intersect.
