The problem Controlled Agriculture System solves

AGRO solves the problem of poor real-time field monitoring and inefficient irrigation.
Using an ESP32 integrated with sensors such as soil moisture, temperature-humidity (DHT), water level, rain, and light sensors, it continuously monitors field and environmental conditions. The system updates sensor data every 15 seconds and automatically controls irrigation through a relay-operated pump based on real-time soil moisture levels, ensuring optimal water usage.

All sensor data is transmitted to the AGRO web app, where the latest sensor readings are displayed in real time, enabling farmers to remotely monitor fields, reduce water wastage, minimize manual effort, and improve crop health through data-driven decisions. Unlike conventional efficient systems that rely on fixed schedules or manual control, AGRO dynamically adapts irrigation using real-time sensor inputs, making it more precise, responsive, and resource-efficient.

Challenges we ran into

During the development of AGRO, the team faced several technical and integration challenges. Initially, the entire system crashed multiple times, and sensors stopped responding, making it difficult to run all sensors simultaneously. Managing multiple sensors together caused stability issues and inconsistent readings.

The hardware setup was extremely complex, especially during the irrigation phase, as different types of pumps were tested before finalizing a suitable one. Establishing a reliable connection between the hardware and software was challenging, and obtaining accurate, real-time data on the ThingSpeak channel required multiple recalibrations and troubleshooting.

The system also faced overheating issues, leading to frequent crashes and the need to reinstall and reconfigure the setup. Additionally, several changes had to be made to the web application to ensure proper data visualization and synchronization with the hardware.

Despite these challenges, continuous testing, hardware optimization, and software improvements helped stabilize the system and improve overall performance.
