Know Your Actor Rights, Instantly
The problem Clause AI solves
The Problem It Solves:
SAG-AFTRA contracts are the legal backbone of performer rights, but they are long, complex, and filled with legal jargon, redlines, contradictions, and amendments that make them nearly impossible for the average actor to understand or use effectively. This leads to confusion, underpayment, and missed protections, especially with the rise of AI-generated performances and streaming complexities.
How Our Project Improves This:
Clause AI transforms these dense legal documents into an accessible, interactive experience. Performers can describe real-life scenarios (e.g., “They reused my voice in an AI-generated trailer”) and instantly receive a plain-language summary of their rights, the relevant clauses, risks, and actionable next steps. By integrating Coinbase Wallet and USDC payments, we also create a new path to scale premium access to legal clarity, which helps actors seek legal help faster, more fairly, and in a future-ready format.
Challenges we ran into
Challenges I Ran Into:
1. Parsing Complex Legal Contracts
SAG-AFTRA agreements contain duplicative clauses, redlines, and inconsistent formatting across addendums, making them difficult to process with traditional PDF parsers.
Solution: We combined PyMuPDF with custom chunking logic to break contracts into semantically meaningful blocks. These blocks were then embedded using text-embedding-3-small, enabling accurate retrieval and context-aware analysis by downstream AI models.
2. Wallet Integration for Payments
Using Coinbase AgentKit and RainbowKit together was new territory. Ensuring smooth wallet connections (via RainbowKit) and validating USDC payments in real time (via AgentKit) was tricky, especially across chains.
Solution: We integrated RainbowKit for a seamless wallet connection experience and used AgentKit on Base for fast, gas-efficient payments, adding a webhook to unlock premium features post-confirmation.
3. UX for Legal Info Without Overwhelm
Displaying dense legal insights in a user-friendly way was a challenge, especially when users needed both quick answers and access to in-depth contract analysis.
Solution: We modularized the output into collapsible sections: Clauses, Warnings, Recommendations, and Negotiation Points, each with icons, citations, and summaries for clarity.
For users who unlocked premium features, we provided advanced clause analysis, risk matrices, and legal roadmaps, all seamlessly integrated into the same intuitive interface.
Each of these obstacles helped sharpen the final product and made the agent more usable, explainable and trustworthy.
