Multimodal AI Fraud Verification & Polygon Escrow

The problem ClaimChain solves

The Problem: A 30 Billion Dollar Broken Industry

Traditional insurance claim processing is plagued by three systemic failures:

  1. Crippling Processing Delays: Claimants wait anywhere from 14 to 45 days for manual paperwork reviews, adjuster site visits, and back-and-forth email verifications.
  2. Astronomical Fraud Overhead: Insurance fraud costs the global industry upwards of 30 Billion dollars annually. To combat this, insurers deploy armies of manual adjusters, driving up administrative overhead by 20 to 30 percent and forcing honest policyholders to pay higher premiums.
  3. The Black Box Trust Deficit: Claimants have zero visibility into why their claim was delayed or rejected. Funds remain locked in corporate bank accounts, creating an inherent conflict of interest where insurers profit by delaying or denying payouts.

The Solution: ClaimChain Autonomous Escrow Protocol

ClaimChain completely replaces slow, manual insurance processing with an autonomous multimodal AI agent and trustless blockchain smart contracts on Polygon Amoy.

Instead of waiting weeks for human adjusters, users submit their incident narrative, payout request, and photo evidence. In seconds, ClaimChain executes an automated 3-stage protocol:

  1. Multimodal AI Risk Verification
Google Gemini 1.5 Flash simultaneously analyzes the incident description and photo evidence through 5 specialized neural reasoning nodes: Vision Damage Analysis, NLP Semantic Cross-Validation, Risk Scoring Engine, Oracle Signer, and Central Gemini AI Agent. It detects metadata anomalies, lighting inconsistencies, timeline contradictions, and stock image fraud to generate an objective Fraud Risk Score from 0 to 100.

  2. Code-Enforced On-Chain Escrow Payouts
Smart contracts deployed on Polygon Amoy hold claim funds in trustless escrow.
For Low Risk below 40, the smart contract instantly auto-executes payout directly to the claimant wallet in under 5 seconds.
For High Risk 40 or above, the smart contract locks escrow funds on-chain and flags the claim for transparent admin verification.

  3. Transparent On-Chain Auditability
Every claim verdict, risk score, and transaction hash is recorded immutably on-chain on amoy.polygonscan.com, eliminating insurer-claimant trust deficits and providing 100 percent auditability.

Key Innovations and Real-World Impact

  • 99.9 Percent Faster Settlement: Reduces claim processing time from 45 days down to 5 seconds.
  • Zero-Trust Escrow: Payouts are enforced by open-source smart contract code ClaimEscrow.sol, not corporate promises.
  • 90 Percent Reduction in Administrative Overhead: Eliminates first-level manual adjuster backlogs through automated multimodal AI filtering.
  • Dual Demo Infrastructure: Built-in Instant Demo Sandbox Mode for zero-gas presentation testing alongside full Polygon Amoy Testnet live contract verification.

Who Can Use ClaimChain?

  1. Micro-Insurance Platforms: Instant automated claims for flight delays, electronics damage, and small asset protection.
  2. DeFi and Web3 Escrow Protocols: Automated decentralized oracle payouts for peer-to-peer insurance pools.
  3. Traditional Enterprise Insurers: Pluggable AI risk oracle middleware to automate first-notice-of-loss FNOL triage.

Challenges we ran into

Challenges We Ran Into and Technical Solutions

  1. Multimodal AI Schema Determinism and Structured Risk Output

Hurdle: Large Multimodal Models like Google Gemini 1.5 Flash often generate natural language conversational responses, which can introduce variance when automated smart contract systems require exact integer risk scores from 0 to 100.

Solution: We engineered strict JSON schema instructions and system prompts within the Express backend SDK. We implemented fallback sanitization parsers that validate output structure, extract explicit numerical scores, and format detected risk signals into deterministic arrays before passing telemetry to the oracle pipeline.

  1. Off-Chain AI Oracle Integration with On-Chain Smart Contracts

Hurdle: Connecting off-chain AI risk evaluation with on-chain EVM smart contract execution on Polygon Amoy created security and synchronization challenges, particularly ensuring unauthorized accounts could not submit fake risk scores.

Solution: We implemented a cryptographic Oracle architecture using Ethers.js v6. The Solidity smart contract ClaimEscrow.sol enforces an access-controlled onlyOracle modifier. When Gemini computes a low risk score, the backend oracle signs the payload with its private key to execute automated claim releases securely.

  1. Testnet RPC Rate-Limiting and Presentation Resilience

Hurdle: Public blockchain testnet RPC nodes on Polygon Amoy can experience block latency or rate limits during live demonstrations, which could cause presentation bottlenecks for hackathon judges.

Solution: We designed a dual-mode execution architecture. We built an Instant Demo Sandbox Mode that activates when CONTRACT_ADDRESS is set to demo_mode. This simulates smart contract state transitions locally without gas costs, while maintaining full compatibility with live Polygon Amoy contracts when deployed.

  1. React SSR Hydration and CSS Variable Theme Synchronization

Hurdle: Developing a text-first developer UI in Next.js 14 with instant Dark and Light mode toggling caused Flash of Unstyled Content FOUC and React server-client hydration mismatches.

Solution: We built a client-side ThemeProvider context wrapper and tokenized all colors into CSS variables on root and html.light. This decouples component styling from hydration states, ensuring instantaneous 60fps theme switching across all inputs, cards, and modal HUDs.
