Choose web3 Media

Building the healthiest web3 community in Africa.

Why are you participating for Based Africa?

I’m applying for Based Africa on behalf of my team because Choose Web3 Media’s mission aligns perfectly with this grant's purpose and vision of decentralization (bringing more people onchain) in Africa. Coincidentally, our target audience is Africa and our goal has been to onboard a 15 million Africans to web3, from building an online presence and community to hosting live conferences across different parts of Africa.

Needless to say, your commitment to promoting innovation and bringing a million people onchain resonates deeply with our goals.

In addition, we are made up of a team of 100% native African creatives who take value very seriously, we are participating in Based Africa because we believe we’ll not just be able to contribute our quota to the growing web3 ecosystem but will also be able to add to the base community by making base known to Africa any way we can (by featuring Base and products built on base in our contents, monthly quizzes, community contests and web2 vs web3 product comparison series’s), harvesting across Africa a very healthy user base.

Conclusively, Based Africa fits our preference for Long-term Collaborations within the space: We envision a lasting partnership, exploring opportunities for joint events, content creation, and talent development and we see that potential with Based Africa.

We will utilize the grant to:
Expand our team, further develop comprehensive web3 education programs and increase content output, also incentivize participation within the community.

Thank you for considering our application.

What challenges are you focusing on?

The web3 community; builders and users alike, to a great extent depend on influencers and content creators ‘to gain traction and ‘become aware of trends within the space, respectively. These influencers serve as a bridge between the builders and the potential users of their products (very vital to both parties).

However, this relationship has in recent times been quite toxic especially to builders, for the following obvious reasons;

  1. A growing community of seekers and takers with little will to take on responsibilities within the space; which is hardly their faults because nearly every content creator in the web3 space right now is talking about airdrops, as a result a majority of community members across every web3 ecosystem joins with the sole purpose of "making money".

  2. The above creates short term/temporal wins (for builders especially) because users interact with builder's products more, users get rewarded for using these products and influencers grow in influence (more followers).

  3. Fast declining or abysmal loyalty to projects after rewards have been distributed. The growth becomes one sided because builders and their products are abandoned but for the influencers/content creators, there'll always be another project to write about and interact with for rewards for both them and their followers.

This is a virus that if not addressed is capable of ruining the essence of the enter web3 space and the reason why Choose Web3 Media exists, to solve the menace.

How does your submission address this challenge?

Cw3 content strategies have been tailored into four primary course series’ as seen below;
1. Web3 User Education: Understanding blockchain technology and its everyday applications (use-cases).
2. Web2 vs. Web3: Comparing centralized and decentralized applications highlighting Web3 upsides.
3. DApp Interaction: Hands-on guidance for using decentralized apps.
4. Alternative Web3 Earning Streams: Beyond airdrops.

Why CW3 Matters:

  1. Novice web3 users: Most money/reward focused users within the web3 community are the way they are because that's all they know, better put, because that's all they've been programmed to see. if they knew better they would do better and if they understood how using web3 would improve their lives, they'd use it.

  2. Web2 Users: Web2 users lack awareness of viable Web3 alternatives. All our courses bridge the gap, guiding them from basics to decentralized app adoption..

  3. Web2 Developers: An army of users who will be truly interested in web3 products would give web2 developers a reason to successfully transition. We intend to raise an army of cult-like users across Africa who will choose web3 anytime, this will boost the integrity of the ecosystem, encourage developers to build & web2 developers to transition.

WE ARE UNIQUE BECAUSE;

  1. No other page has a dedicated series on web2 to web3 product comparison, which will be very effective to express how web3 serves users better.
  2. Our audience is defined (Africa) and that makes us very deliberate, efficient and focused.
  3. Our every content will be 100% healthy to the industry, not some healthy & some toxic (just to align with trends), like most creators do.
  4. Developing Usecase stories - Another unique one of a kind content series.
  5. Quizzes over Giveaways: Most creators engage giveaways, we achieve the same results or better by rewarding loyalty via quizzes, further educating & spreading web3 awareness beyond our page (getting participants to post on theirs).

Challenges we ran into

We've encountered two major challenges which are both finance related; Team Expansion (for content variety) & Incentivizing Participation.

  1. Team Expansion: Success & Impact of Cw3 will depend largely on the quality of content produced. Failure to do this will lead to having a large number of people only passing through our different communication channels. So to us, prioritizing quality content production over all else is essential but somewhat expensive especially in the long run.
    To operate at full potential and make the desired impact; we'll need to kick-off video productions and increase output of illustrations and articles.

  2. Participation Incentives: Some of our growth strategies like Our monthly Ecosystem Quiz, Bi-monthly content contest, X Spaces, and engaging not so big influencers for shoutouts in the early phase of our work will require finance for sustenance.
    Each of the growth strategies are vital to increased reach and engagement, which in turn multiplies our growth potential.

PROGRESS SO FAR;

  1. We've started production of Articles, Threads, and Comic Memes (Illustrations) with a team of three. Personally funded, hiring some of the best local talents around (not at the posting frequency we'd like, but we've tested the waters and gained a level of acceptance) while anticipating resources to increase output and kick off video productions.

  2. We have been able to implement one recurring participation incentive so far, we host a monthly quiz with a meager budget.
    The purpose of the monthly quiz is to; Test knowledge of and reward loyal followers, Attract new members, Push engagement & reach which will enable us reach both existing & potential web3 users with interest in discovering more of web3 & not quiz rewards and finally, overtime convert followers who are after the quiz rewards to loyal users of DApps that speak to their needs with increased knowledge. We just concluded our 1st quiz and it was very successful and impactful as envisioned.
