The problem CertiAgent-HSK solves
CertiAgent-HSK addresses the challenges of document tampering, manual verification, and the lack of transparent, traceable certification processes.
Traditional document verification often depends on centralized systems, manual procedures, and intermediaries, making it time-consuming and difficult to independently verify whether a document has been modified.
Our solution uses an automated agent to monitor a designated folder, detect new documents, calculate their SHA-256 hashes, and register them on HSK Chain through a smart contract.
Users can independently verify document integrity by comparing a file's current hash with its blockchain record. Any modification to the original document produces a different hash, allowing unauthorized changes to be detected.
CertiAgent-HSK can be used by educational institutions, businesses, and organizations to establish verifiable records of certificates, contracts, academic documents, and other important files.
By combining automated document processing with blockchain technology, the project reduces repetitive manual tasks, improves traceability, and enables independent verification without storing sensitive document contents onchain.
Challenges we ran into
One of the main challenges was adapting an existing document certification system originally developed for Polygon into an independent solution compatible with Ethereum Sepolia and HSK Chain, while preserving the original project.
Another challenge was implementing an automated agent capable of monitoring a folder, detecting new files, and submitting blockchain transactions without requiring users to manually certify each document.
During development, we encountered several technical hurdles:
Smart contract configuration: The application initially failed to certify documents because the deployed contract address had not been configured in the environment variables. We addressed this by configuring the correct contract address for the selected network.
Insufficient transaction funds: Although MetaMask showed an available HSK balance, automated certification failed because the agent used a separate wallet to sign and pay for transactions. We identified the agent's wallet and funded it with HSK testnet tokens.
Agent authorization: We implemented an authorization mechanism allowing the contract owner to explicitly grant the agent permission to register document hashes onchain.
Transaction reliability: We incorporated retry mechanisms and transaction status tracking to handle temporary failures and improve the reliability of automated document certification.
These challenges helped us develop a more secure and reliable architecture that separates contract administration from automated document certification while maintaining transparent, verifiable blockchain records.
