The problem Care Next Door solves

A great number of children who are unable to live with their families need substitute care each year for reasons such as being abused, neglected, orphaned, or abandoned. It is estimated that 140 million children are orphans worldwide and majority of them are from countries with low Human Development Index.There are more than 30 million orphaned and abandoned children in India - that's almost 4% of the youth population. Since the Covid-19 pandemic struck in 2020, thousands more children have been orphaned, and the true figures are still unknown. And surprisingly only 3559 children got adopted from 2020-2021 according to CARA.
The children who do not get a chance to get adopted by a family are the real sufferers. So in order to provide each and every child with a platform to get a chance of experiencing a family life we have created a website (Care Next Door) in order to increase the reach of foster care.
Our website is an easy to reach platform for orphanages as well as families who are wanting to be a part of foster care.

Challenges we ran into

Being a beginner, it was very difficult to build and implement a website from scratch. We used YouTube videos and other resources to learn all about Web Development, HTML, CSS. As this was our first hackathon, we had lack of clarity. From choosing a problem statement, to building a website, it was no less than a roller coaster ride for us.

The Ask Me Anything sessions and the Web Development workshop organized by HackDefine Team were very helpful. The mentors were always available to guide us throughout the Hackathon.
