Empowering Carbon Accounting with Solana Blockchain technology.

The problem Carby solves

Carbon accounting is a complex topic which involves multiple standards, scopes, and regulations. For businesses, especially the smaller ones, this can be intimidating and cost-intensive. Carby solves this issue by helping businesses collect and analyse their carbon emission data. They would just have to configure the data sources once and the data collection process will be automated in future.

Public trust is another issue for carbon accounting. There may be limited oversight and verification of the carbon emission data reported by companies. Carby solves this issue by storing encrypted carbon emission data on the Solana blockchain. That way, businesses can choose whether to disclose their emissions data to the public. Certifications and audit records will also be stored on-chain for traceability purposes.

Businesses may create fraudulent carbon transaction records for their benefit. This is a common issue in Web 2 software. By storing carbon emissions data on the Solana Blockchain, the risk of counterfeited carbon reporting will be reduced because everything on the blockchain can act as evidence for fraud if the company is sued for faking its data. Besides, the immutability property of the Solana blockchain also prevent companies from manipulating their carbon emissions data.

Challenges I ran into

For now, only Figma screens are built for this project so we haven't encountered any bugs yet.
