The problem Calibre-Cops solves
Our web application and Chrome extension act as a proactive security layer, helping users stay protected from cyber threats in the following ways:
- Detects If an Email or Password Has Been Breached
The system scans the user's email and password against known databases of leaked credentials from the dark web.
If a breach is detected, the user is alerted immediately.
This helps users change compromised passwords before attackers can misuse them. - Identifies Phishing Emails and Malicious URLs
Our tool can analyze suspicious emails and URLs to determine if they are part of a phishing attack.
This prevents users from clicking on links that could steal their login information or install malware.
It safeguards sensitive data like banking details, personal information, and login credentials. - Ensures Safe Browsing with the Chrome Extension
The Chrome extension automatically checks the current tab’s URL and warns users if the website is unsafe or a known phishing site.
This provides real-time protection without requiring manual checks.
Users can browse with confidence, knowing they won’t accidentally land on harmful websites.
Challenges we ran into
During the development of this project, we encountered several challenges that tested our problem-solving abilities and adaptability. One major hurdle was our limited knowledge of certain packages, which required extensive research and experimentation to implement them correctly. Additionally, our lack of experience in cybersecurity-related development made it difficult to apply best practices, particularly when dealing with data breaches and phishing detection. Implementing the Chrome extension was another significant challenge, as it involved learning new concepts such as manifest files, content scripts, and background processes, which were unfamiliar to us. Despite these difficulties, we overcame them through continuous learning, collaboration, and iterative testing, ultimately strengthening our technical skills and enhancing the overall functionality of the project.
