BUNDI (Swahili for Owl) is a hybrid environmental surveillance ecosys-
tem designed to digitize forest conservation in Kenya. It addresses
the critical gap in current forestry management: the inability to de-
tect illegal activities in real-time. The system combines two powerful
streams of intelligence: an Acoustic Sentry Grid of solar-powered,
edge-computing sensors deployed in the forest canopy, and a Commu-
nity Intelligence system using USSD and Blockchain for anonymous
reporting. Unlike traditional satellite monitoring which suffers from
latency and cloud cover, BUNDI provides instant (<60s), geo-located
alerts, shifting forestry management from reactive (damage assess-
ment) to proactive (interception).
