Recognizes and rewards the most impactful builders

The problem Builder Rewards solves

Builder Rewards solves fundamental challenges in identifying, recognizing, and rewarding genuine builders:

  • Eliminates application friction: No forms, no waiting, no middlemen. Rewards flow automatically based on actual contributions rather than self-promotion or application writing skills.

  • Identifies real builders: Traditional grant systems favor those skilled at writing applications rather than building. Builder Rewards uses verifiable data from GitHub and onchain activity to identify genuine contributors who might otherwise go unrecognized.

  • Automates reward distribution: Operates on a weekly cycle, analyzing the quality of contributions across GitHub and onchain environments, distributing rewards in a curve to compensate the most impactful builders.

Challenges we ran into

Building Builder Rewards presented several significant technical and operational hurdles:

  • Parallel system inefficiencies: Our initial implementation used a system parallel to the main Talent API, creating inefficiencies with wasted resources and duplicate data fetching efforts that weren't reused in data points.

  • Highly personalized scoring logic: Rewards scoring methods required hardcoded logic that was difficult to customize for different ecosystems and use cases.

  • Manual review bottlenecks: Traditional grant systems faced limited scalability due to manual review processes, creating administrative burdens for ecosystem teams.

  • Data reliability issues: Initial scoring calculations showed very low numbers of fees, contract creations and transactions, indicating we needed to track more contracts and improve our data collection methods.

We overcame these challenges by developing a standardized scoring framework, implementing sybil-resistance mechanisms, creating a more accurate Builder Score algorithm, and building a scalable infrastructure that could handle millions of grant user records while enabling automatic reward distribution and real-time leaderboards.
