BTI Fund
Democratizing solar energy with blockchain-powered social investing for climate-conscious communities.
The problem BTI Fund solves
Indonesia has immense solar potential, yet over 61% of its electricity still comes from coal. The transition to clean energy is hindered by three major barriers:
- High Upfront Costs:
Many SMEs, schools, and communities want to adopt solar but can’t afford installation. BTI Fund’s zero-capex leasing model eliminates this hurdle by allowing solar deployment with no upfront investment. - Limited Access to Funding:
Traditional financing is slow and centralized, creating bottlenecks in solar adoption. SolarChain, our blockchain-powered platform, enables community-driven crowdfunding where anyone can invest in solar projects and earn returns. - Lack of Transparency:
Investors often can’t verify the real impact of their green investments. Our platform uses blockchain to provide immutable, real-time data on energy production, CO2 offset, and financial returns—ensuring accountability and trust.
We apply social media dynamics to climate finance, turning each solar project into a shareable digital story. Investors can track and share their personal climate impact (CO2 avoided, kWh generated), creating viral, gamified sustainability.
Through our $BTI token (coming soon), we’re enabling fractional ownership of solar assets, opening investment opportunities to even the smallest contributors. The platform handles the entire lifecycle—from project listing, funding, installation, to revenue distribution via smart contracts—delivering an efficient and scalable ecosystem.
With 75 active sites generating 14.4 MWp and avoiding 1.68 million tons of CO2 annually, BTI Fund is not just an idea—it’s a proven model for decentralized clean energy adoption in Southeast Asia.
Challenges we ran into
Building a blockchain-powered platform with real-world utility came with significant challenges:
- Smart Contract Design & Trust:
Creating trustless contracts that automatically distribute revenue based on real-world energy data required careful design. We tackled this by integrating IoT energy meters with the smart contracts and ensuring data is securely hashed and recorded on-chain. - Onboarding Non-Web3 Users:
Many of our target users (MSMEs, schools, communities) are unfamiliar with wallets and tokens. We overcame this with social login features and custodial wallet integration, lowering the barrier to entry without compromising security. - Scalability vs. Decentralization:
We had to balance transaction speed and decentralization. We adopted Layer-2 solutions for fast, cost-effective transactions while anchoring critical data to Ethereum Mainnet for transparency. - Regulatory Uncertainty:
Navigating Indonesia’s evolving crypto and energy regulations was complex. We engaged legal advisors early and designed our token model to comply with local financial and energy standards. - Gamifying Impact Without Greenwashing:
Creating a fun and social platform without trivializing climate action was a creative hurdle. We used verified metrics and educational prompts to keep engagement authentic and mission-aligned.
Through these obstacles, we learned to merge Web3 with real-world impact, making clean energy investing as intuitive and social as using your favorite app.
