The problem Bread solves

Africa's $60B Crypto market is trapped by technical barriers - users must juggle multiple apps, perform lengthy KYC processes, and manually swap or bridge between tokens and blockchains, bad exchange rates, stuck or failed transactions, all these just to convert Crypto to fiat or vice versa. Bread eliminates this friction by enabling anyone to transfer any cryptocurrency on any blockchain directly to their African bank account or mobile money wallet in seconds, without downloading apps or complex onboarding. Our proprietary multi-step routing engine automatically finds optimal conversion paths, delivering local currency across 4+ African countries with just a simple crypto transfer from any wallet.

Challenges I ran into

One specific technical hurdle I faced while building Bread was designing the proprietary multi-step routing engine that can off-ramp any token on any blockchain directly to local African currencies. The challenge was maintaining seamless liquidity and atomic swaps across more than 10 blockchains, DEXs, bridges, and several fiat off-ramp providers—without ever risking users' funds getting stuck mid-process.

Initially, handling edge cases—like partial fills, slippage, or bridge timeouts—would sometimes result in flow failures, risking locked funds or an inconsistent user experience. To overcome this, I implemented a strict, automated refund logic at every step of execution. If any off-ramp flow failed, all funds were instantly and atomically refunded to the user's source wallet, with full on-chain transparency.
