Why are you participating for Based Africa?

We are driven by a passion for innovation, problem-solving, and contributing to the economic development of our community. Contributing to Based Africa allows us to transform ideas into impactful solutions that address real-world problems.

What challenges are you focusing on?

The challenges we are focusing on are largely centered around financial literacy, inclusion, and economic empowerment within the community. Many individuals and small businesses face barriers when it comes to fully understanding how to save, invest, or grow their money effectively, especially in our regions where access to traditional financial services is limited or inefficient.

How does your submission address this challenge?

Our project aims to address the financial inclusion gap by providing a simple, secure, and accessible platform for individuals to learn about finance as well as save and invest, even if they are unfamiliar with decentralized finance (DeFi). By leveraging the scalability and low fees of Base, our platform offers features that promote financial empowerment and inclusion.

It's impact would include;

• improving financial literacy, as users are exposed to saving and investment concepts in a hands-on, practical way.
• our users are likely to develop healthier financial habits, leading to higher personal savings rates across communities
• bringing financial services to people who previously had limited access to banking, savings, and investment tools.

Challenges we ran into

*Challenge: DeFi platforms can often be intimidating for users unfamiliar with blockchain technology. Designing a user interface that simplifies complex concepts like staking, yield farming, and wallet integration posed a challenge.

*Solution: We spent considerable time designing an intuitive, simplified user interface. By conducting user testing with individuals new to DeFi, we iterated on our design to make features like Round-Up Savings and Goal-Based Savings easy to understand and use. We also included educational pop-ups and tooltips to guide users through the processes and allowed easy signing up process for all users, new or experienced in crypto.

*Challenge: Many potential users, especially those unfamiliar with DeFi, did not have existing digital wallets, creating a barrier to entry.

*Solution: We integrated a simple onboarding flow that guides users through creating and funding a wallet if they don’t already have one. We also provided compatibility with popular wallet options like Coinbase and MetaMask to accommodate users who are already active in the space.
