Why are you participating for Based Africa?
My motivation to participate for Africa stems from the region's rapid adoption of blockchain technologies and the need for transparent systems to combat inefficiencies and corruption. I am deeply connected to the innovative spirit emerging from Africa's tech hubs and believe Base blockchain can drive meaningful solutions for governance, transparency, and accountability across various sectors.
What challenges are you focusing on?
We are addressing the challenge of trust and transparency in community decision-making processes, particularly in governance, cooperatives, and local organizations, where opaque voting systems often lead to misrepresentation and manipulation.
How does your submission address this challenge?
BaseVote provides a decentralized voting platform where participants can vote transparently using token-based voting. This ensures every vote is counted and verifiable on the blockchain, reducing fraud and promoting trust in the outcome. By utilizing the Base blockchain, it creates an immutable and decentralized solution for voting across local communities and organizations, allowing for a more democratic and fair process.
Challenges I ran into
One of the technical hurdles I encountered was optimizing the gas fees during contract deployment and transaction executions. To overcome this, I optimized the contract by reducing state changes and minimizing redundant computations. Another challenge was educating non-technical community members on blockchain technology, which I addressed by simplifying the user interface and creating clear documentation for onboarding.
