Based Summer addresses several key issues in the blockchain and crypto space:

1. Complexity of Blockchain Interactions:

   • Traditional blockchain interactions are often complex and intimidating for mainstream users. Based Summer simplifies this by implementing the Coinbase Smart Wallet, allowing users to create and manage wallets seamlessly without needing extensive technical knowledge.

2. User Experience and Adoption:

   • Many blockchain applications fail to provide a user-friendly experience, hindering mainstream adoption. By abstracting the complexities and focusing on an engaging, gamified user experience, Based Summer aims to attract a broader audience and drive virality.

3. Art and Community Integration:

   • The project promotes community engagement by incorporating followers' PFPs, memes, and notable figures into the artwork created by the renowned crypto artist mochiNFT, creating a sense of ownership and participation. This fosters a stronger connection between users and the project.

4. Cost and Accessibility:

   • High transaction fees can be a barrier to entry for many users. Based Summer plans to offer free minting sponsored by the Coinbase Paymaster, with users only needing to cover minimal gas fees (< $0.01), making it accessible to a wider audience.

   • Ensuring the authenticity and ownership of digital assets is crucial. Based Summer uses Coinbase Onchain Verifications and Airstack to verify user data and ownership, enhancing security and trust within the platform.

Challenges I ran into

Participating in my first buildathon was both challenging and enlightening. Initially, I created seven different projects using paymaster templates from BuildOnChainApps, aiming to integrate elements like OnChainKit and AirStack. However, each attempt had issues.

I decided to start from a basic Vercel template, which proved more effective. I also spent time creating a smart contract from scratch but found that using Thirdweb saved time and provided better results.

Configuring the paymaster was a major hurdle. Despite extensive efforts, I couldn't achieve a functional setup. I proceeded without the paymaster, focusing on the overall functionality.

The documentation available was often insufficient, requiring extensive research and experimentation. Over 15 intensive days, I dedicated about 17 hours daily, accumulating over 250 hours of work. This period was intense but provided immense learning opportunities.

Balancing work with basic needs like eating and taking breaks was challenging. Now, I look forward to resuming my gym routine and spending time outdoors.

This project highlighted the importance of adaptability and perseverance in overcoming technical challenges. The process, though strenuous, was rewarding and set the stage for future improvements.
