Empowering Africa’s Blockchain Future Through Education and Innovation.
Why are you participating for Based Africa?
At bitcoinke.io, we are driven by a deep passion for Africa’s potential and the transformative power of blockchain technology.
As an African platform, our mission has always been to bridge the gap in reliable information, education, and news around the blockchain and crypto space in Africa and the African community.
We see this hackathon as an opportunity to expand that vision, working hand-in-hand with Base to spotlight African projects that can change lives and create new opportunities across the continent.
Our motivation comes from our close connection to the African blockchain community.
We've seen firsthand the struggles faced by young innovators who are trying to create solutions but lack the platform and resources to amplify their work.
Africa is a land of promise, but many brilliant ideas go unheard.
By participating in Based Africa, we aim to give these projects a voice, helping to tell the stories that matter, and ensuring that African talent is showcased on a global stage.
What challenges are you focusing on?
Our focus is on addressing the lack of resources, visibility, and access to accurate information that grassroots blockchain projects in Africa struggle with.
Too many projects with potential remain unknown because they don't have the means to reach wider audiences, and often, their educational or informational needs are unmet.
This has created a significant gap in adoption and awareness, particularly in communities where blockchain can have the most impact.
At bitcoinke.io, we've dedicated ourselves to solving these problems by providing a platform for these voices.
However, our challenge remains the same: how do we scale our support for grassroots projects, and how do we create a centralized, accurate, and accessible information hub for everyone across the continent?
With Base's support, we hope to tackle this challenge head-on.
How does your submission address this challenge?
Our submission involves embedding Bonfire, a video product on the Base ecosystem, directly into our website, which will be available across all 4,000+ articles. With an average of over 1 million hits per month, this integration will give African blockchain innovators unprecedented exposure.
Through Bonfire, we’ll deliver real-time updates and educational content on blockchain projects, empowering developers, our community, and users to connect, learn, and grow.
By leveraging Base’s ecosystem and integrating Bonfire, we are building a new educational layer on our platform, ensuring that not only is information centralized and accessible, but also engaging and relevant. This will drive the adoption and understanding of blockchain solutions, particularly in regions that are often underserved by traditional platforms.
Roadmap: Expanding Reach in the Next Two Years
In the next two to five years, bitcoinke.io will focus on expanding our platform’s reach to North Africa (MENA Region), Francophone Africa, and Southern Africa, targeting their grassroots blockchain communities.
Over this period, we aim to:
-
Translate and localize content to serve diverse linguistic and cultural communities, making blockchain education more accessible.
-
Build partnerships with local influencers and educational platforms in these regions to drive awareness and adoption of blockchain solutions.
-
Continue leveraging Base’s tools to scale our impact, providing tailored content and educational resources that align with the specific needs and challenges faced by these regions.
This roadmap ensures that as we grow, Base's ecosystem and our educational platform will continue to support the blockchain revolution in Africa’s most promising, yet underserved regions.
Challenges we ran into
Our biggest hurdle has been technical - ensuring the seamless integration of Bonfire, one of the Base ecosystem apps, across all 4,000+ articles on our platform without disrupting user experience.
Given the scale of our platform and the traffic we receive, maintaining site speed and reliability was a concern.
We overcame this by working closely with both Base developers and our in-house team, optimizing our infrastructure to handle the additional load. This collaboration allowed us to integrate Bonfire in a way that supports video streaming across all articles without sacrificing the platform's performance.
Non-technically, we faced the challenge of spreading awareness about blockchain education in local communities.
Many of these communities lack the infrastructure or access to resources to fully engage with digital content.
We tackled this by creating localized content and partnering with grassroots educators who could bring our resources to the ground level, furthering the impact.
Additional Features
While bitcoinke.io existed before the Buildathon, our participation has enabled us to introduce the Bonfire feature during the hackathon.
This addition significantly enhances the educational value of our platform, making sure that vital blockchain content is visible and engaging for our vast audience.
By embedding this feature, we can now ensure that African blockchain developers and projects gain the spotlight they deserve, while also fostering education across the continent.
For Base, this integration provides widespread visibility and adoption of its ecosystem in Africa. With over 1 million monthly hits on our platform, Base benefits from having its tools and products showcased to a highly engaged audience across the region.
This not only expands Base's presence in Africa, but also strengthens its reputation as a critical infrastructure provider for blockchain innovation on the continent, while empowering grassroots projects to flourish.
