Why are you participating for Based LatAm?
I’m participating to bring accessible and decentralized solutions to the LatAm community. Blockchain technology can empower individuals by giving them greater control over their finances. As a developer with connections to the LatAm region, I want to contribute by creating tools that make interacting with blockchain simpler, starting with a service to track wallet balances on Base. My motivation comes from a desire to promote financial inclusion and educate people on the benefits of blockchain, specifically within LatAm, where such tools can provide valuable support.
What challenges are you focusing on?
The main challenges I'm focusing on are accessibility and transparency in decentralized finance (DeFi). Many people in the LatAm region struggle with accessing traditional banking services, and blockchain can bridge this gap by providing them with decentralized financial tools. However, for non-technical users, interacting with blockchain can be intimidating. I aim to address this by creating an intuitive tool that helps users monitor their wallet balances on the Base blockchain, making blockchain finance easier to understand and adopt.
How does your submission address this challenge?
My project, the Base Wallet Balance Viewer, provides users with a simple interface to track wallet balances on the Base blockchain. By making this tool available, I aim to lower the technical barrier for people in LatAm to engage with blockchain technology. The tool allows users to easily monitor the amount of cryptocurrency they hold in a Base wallet, which can serve as a first step toward greater involvement in DeFi and blockchain-based finance. The project’s impact lies in simplifying access to crucial blockchain information, fostering broader adoption of Base within the LatAm region.
Challenges we ran into
The major challenge was integrating the Python-based service with the Base blockchain. One hurdle was ensuring the connection to Base’s network using reliable RPC nodes. I overcame this by leveraging tools like Infura and Alchemy for consistent connection stability. Another challenge was the balance accuracy and handling large wallet transactions, which I resolved through optimization techniques to process requests efficiently. These technical challenges were essential to deliver a seamless user experience.
Additional Features
During the buildathon, I enhanced the project by implementing features like caching for quicker balance lookups and integrating additional user-friendly functionality. I also added support for multiple wallets, allowing users to monitor several addresses from the same interface.
