Challenges I ran into
Setting up the studio to achieve the desired quality was a primary hurdle, requiring perfect green screen, lighting, camera angles, mic set up, audio, and more.
Limited time was another challenge, as we were juggling full-time projects and managing two weekly events.
Learning about Base and Onchain Summer while receiving engagement back from the community was challenging. We watched the Buildathon kick-off call, interviews, and more but struggled to get across our progress.
To overcome challenges, we adopted a systematic approach:
- Studio Setup: We invested time in researching and setting up our studio environment. We experimented with various lighting setups to eliminate shadows and ensure even illumination. This involved multiple rehearsals to test different room and setting configurations
- Technical Learning: We dedicated time to play around OBS tool functionalities and experimenting with scene transitions, overlays, and audio synchronization. Due to the laptop’s high GPU, each time OBS was opened, tabs from the presentation in Arc had to be refreshed, and camera angles from pre-saved scenes had to be resized. Troubleshooting took time.
- Planning: We used Notion for Base Play projects, but due to hurdles in the planning stage, this left little time for execution. Despite rehearsals and alternative shooting days, we were often overworked. On the filming day, a thunderstorm hit, prompting us to apply with what we had instead of pushing through.
- Builders Support: Each rehearsal provided insights, allowing us to refine our approach. We shared our progress at weekly Optimism Fractal events, whilst collaborating with Superchain builders and helping each other to learn about Onchain Summer and Base
- Promotion: Lacking an active badge meant our updates weren't featured in the main Farcaster channels feed. In Office Hours, Will suggested sharing progress in Base Discord. I started promoting in various Base channels, which helped with views and engagement.
