The Problem It Solves

Expressing moods and emotions online is usually fleeting — a tweet, a story, or a status update disappears into the feed. There’s no permanent, verifiable, and user-owned record of how people feel day-to-day.

Base Moodboard solves this by letting users log their daily mood (emoji, color, and phrase) and mint it as a lightweight NFT on Base. This transforms a simple expression into a personal, onchain collectible that cannot be lost, deleted, or owned by a centralized platform.

For individuals: it creates a fun and permanent mood diary, secured onchain.

For communities: moods can be aggregated to form collective moodboards, enabling new types of social graphs based on emotions rather than just follows or likes.

For developers: moods as onchain primitives can power future apps (e.g., wellness dashboards, social games, or sentiment-driven DAOs).

By combining Farcaster’s social layer with Base’s onchain permanence, it makes self-expression simple, verifiable, and ownable.

Hurdle: Balancing Simplicity with Onchain UX

One major challenge was designing a frictionless UX for minting moods while still keeping everything fully onchain. For most users, signing transactions and waiting for confirmation is unfamiliar and can feel heavy, especially for something as lightweight as posting an emoji or phrase.

Solution

I tackled this by minimizing user input and surfacing only the essential signing step in MiniKit. All metadata handling (emoji, color, phrase → IPFS) is done in the background, so the user only sees one clean confirmation prompt when minting. This kept the app experience simple while preserving the trust-minimized and verifiable nature of the minting process.
