The problem Base Colors solves
"Own Colors. Name Colors. Base Colors." Base Colors is intended to be a fun and easy way to onboard onchain. New users can create a wallet in seconds (Coinbase Smart Wallet) and buy a color with their credit card (via Crossmint) to get it in their wallet. Base Colors is intended to be novel, fundamental, and accessible, aligning with Onchain Summer's core principles to "Do something that’s never been done before" (novel), "Make something accessible to everyone" (accessible), and "Keep it simple" (fundamental). We believe we can help bring a lot of people onchain!
Challenges I ran into
The core challenge was making the flow for new users as easy and fast as possible. We tried to solve every possible "wrong direction" that a non-crypto native, not even tech savvy user might take, to guide them through creating a wallet and minting their first NFT, and we believe we have been successful. In sharing the project with friends outside of crypto, our belief that Base Colors is as universally accessible (in terms of both the UX and the price) as colors are universally appealing has been confirmed, and we are thrilled with the early reception to see that people love it as much as we do.
