The problem AuRoom solves

Problem & Solution

In Indonesia, gold is one of the most trusted forms of financial protection. According to the World Gold Council, approximately 67% of Indonesians hold gold to strengthen financial resilience and prepare for uncertainty. Yet, when emergencies actually occur, gold holders fall into a liquidity trap.

In urgent situations, people are forced to either sell gold at an instant 8–12% loss due to wide bid-ask spreads, or navigate slow and bureaucratic pawn processes that are poorly suited for medical, educational, or daily cash emergencies. The problem is not the value of gold, it is that the existing liquidity system forces permanent decisions during temporary crises.

AuRoom solves this by introducing the Gold Emergency Liquidity Buffer.

Instead of forcing a sale, AuRoom allows users to access emergency cash without giving up ownership of their gold. Users buy time, crossing the emergency, while preserving their long-term financial position.

Key Features

  1. Intent-Based Emergency Flow
Users start by entering how much IDR they need. AuRoom automatically calculates the required gold buffer and safety margins in the background, eliminating financial and technical decision-making during stress.

  2. Partial Liquidity Access
Users unlock only the amount needed for the emergency, without liquidating their entire gold holdings.

  3. Direct Gold-to-Bank Settlement
Emergency funds are delivered straight to the user’s bank account through a hybrid on-chain and off-chain system — avoiding exchanges, pawnshops, or manual cash-out steps.

  4. Emergency-First UX
No crypto calculations, no protocol decisions, no financial jargon. The system is designed for speed, clarity, and minimal cognitive load in high-stress moments.

Core Infrastructure
AuRoom bridges transparent smart contracts for temporary gold locking with bank APIs for fiat settlement. This hybrid approach ensures asset safety on-chain while meeting real-world emergency needs off-chain.

Challenges we ran into

  1. Web3 → Web2 Settlement Without a Sandbox
  • Challenge
One of the biggest hurdles was integrating IDRX for gold-to-bank settlement. IDRX does not currently provide a developer sandbox, which made full end-to-end testing of the onchain-to-offchain lifecycle impossible during development. This created a real risk: onchain collateral could be locked while offchain disbursement failed or behaved unexpectedly.
  • How We Solved It
We built a settlement simulation layer that mirrors IDRX’s callback behavior strictly based on their official technical documentation. This simulation allowed us to test edge cases such as delayed callbacks, failed settlements, and partial execution. To mitigate risk, we enforced strict state synchronization rules:
gold collateral is only locked onchain after a valid settlement trigger is confirmed. This ensured system safety even without live sandbox access.
  1. Removing DeFi Complexity for Emergency Use Cases
  • Challenge
Typical DeFi lending flows require users to manage wallets, gas fees, collateral ratios, and multiple transaction steps. This is fundamentally incompatible with emergency scenarios, where users are stressed and time-constrained.
  • How We Solved It
We redesigned the flow around an intent-based UX. Instead of exposing protocol mechanics, users only specify the amount of IDR they need. All technical logic like collateral calculation, safety buffers, and transaction orchestration are runs entirely in the background.
This reduced the user journey from a 6-step DeFi flow to 4 instant actions, making the system usable by non-crypto-native gold holders.
