The general public often finds the blockchain space daunting and overly technical. The ATX Onchain Summer Extravaganza addressed this by creating a vibrant marketplace where local Austinites could get to know other local web3 builders, and learn firsthand from them what they’re building and why they believe onchain is the future. We facilitated the onboarding process for newcomers by setting them up with Coinbase Wallets and helping them deposit USDC on Base to purchase items directly at the event from 5 participating vendors.
Our event showcased how smoothly blockchain technology can now facilitate everyday transactions and support local businesses. Local web3 projects were present to demonstrate their developments and assist with any questions from those new to the crypto world. This setup not only educated but also built trust in blockchain technologies by providing a practical, hands-on experience.
By creating an open and friendly environment, the ATX Onchain Summer Extravaganza made learning about new technology accessible and enjoyable, fostering community connections and illustrating the practical benefits of blockchain integration in daily life.
Organizing an event that balanced both educational content and entertainment was challenging. We needed to ensure the technical discussions were accessible and engaging to avoid alienating newcomers. Additionally, coordinating with artists, speakers, and vendors who were new to blockchain technology posed logistical hurdles. Last but not least, we did all of this a few days before the launch of Nounspace v0, and the lack of food, sleep, and time away from screens has been challenging, but worthwhile.
