Atithi Compliance System (ACS)

Web3/Blockchain based paperless compliance system to facilitate seamless KYC, register keeping, reporting and stakeholder management for the hospitality industry (Hotels, Lodges, Dharamshala, PG etc.

The problem Atithi Compliance System (ACS) solves

Check-in at hotels continues to follow the decades-old procedure of providing an identification document and having a hotel employee make a photocopy, enter information into a government-approved register, and keep data for law enforcement cross-verification. The following issues are related with the hospitality industry's compliance process:

  1. Broken or invalid KYC Verification process in hotels (Existing process requires taking xerox copy of guests ID only not cross verification is done).
  2. Maintaining guests KYC documents and the compliance register for the required five-year duration.
  3. Personal Information Security (Customer identity data - aadhar card, passport, driving licence from abuse).
  4. Reduced carbon footprints and tree preservation. (According to Indian Tourism Stastistics, 2.33 billion tourists stayed in 10.2 million rooms across India in 2021, and paperless compliance will save 108,111,200 tonnes of CO2 and 2,70,414 trees annually).
  5. Real-time analytic capabilities for law enforcement, enhanced interdepartmental collaboration, and remote threat detection.
  6. Hotels with streamlined and quicker check-in processes (with time).
Smart Cities and the Tourism Board will collect detailed data for promotion and policy formulation.

Challenges we ran into

Challange 1: Verification of identity documents provided by guests
Approach - For national identies like Aadhar Card, we realied on Indian KYC service provider and for international guests KYC service providers like Jumio is used.
Challange 2: Protecting Identity Data of guests
Approach - Rather than keeping customer identity data at centralized server, we opted for relying on KYC service provider to validate and storing data over decentralized infrastucture.
Challange 3: Real-time access with law enforcement is susceptible to abuse and threat to individual privacy
Approach - Incorporated maker-checker model alread in used by Police department like CDR(Call Details Record) request. Analyst role to create search request and "Approval" roles for reviewing and approving request wherein process is managed over blockchain for inmutability and auditibility.
