Why are you participating for Based SEA?

I’m participating in Based SEA because it's an incredible opportunity to connect with a community of innovators and problem-solvers This event is a space where creativity meets technology I want to be part of that energy The chance to learn from others exchange ideas and see different perspectives excites me It’s not just about competing but about growing and evolving together with people who share the same passion for making a difference
One of the main reasons for joining is the focus on real-world solutions Based SEA challenges participants to think beyond the obvious and push the limits of what’s possible I love that it’s about tackling complex problems with practical and impactful solutions I’m driven by the idea that technology can change lives I want to contribute to that movement This platform provides a unique space where I can bring my ideas to life and collaborate with like-minded individuals who are equally motivated
The learning experience is also a huge draw Based SEA brings together experts mentors and peers from different backgrounds and skill sets It’s an incredible chance to gain new insights and enhance my skills I’m particularly excited about the hands-on experience the workshops and the mentorship that will help me refine my ideas and approach I believe every interaction here will be a step toward becoming better at what I do
Finally it’s about challenging myself Based SEA is not just another event it's a proving ground where I can test my limits stretch my abilities and see how far I can go I’m here to push myself learn from the challenges and grow as a professional and as a person This experience is about more than just winning it’s about personal growth contributing to something meaningful and being part of a community that values innovation and impact.

What challenges are you focusing on?

I’m focusing on challenges that address key issues in areas such as decentralized finance, data security and supply chain transparency. Blockchain has the potential to revolutionize these fields, but there are still significant obstacles to overcome.
In DeFi,I’m interested in tackling challenges around scalability, user adoption, and improving transaction speeds while maintaining decentralization and security. Many decentralized financial platforms face issues with high fees and slow processing times, and I aim to explore solutions that make DeFi more accessible and efficient.
For data security, blockchain offers powerful tools to enhance privacy and security, but challenges like scalability and interoperability between different networks remain. I’m focusing on how blockchain can provide secure, tamper-proof systems for storing sensitive data while ensuring seamless integration with existing infrastructures.
In supply chain transparency, I’m exploring how blockchain can improve traceability and accountability across industries. Many supply chains lack transparency, leading to inefficiencies, fraud, and ethical concerns. Blockchain can provide a solution, but challenges in adoption, cost, and data accuracy still need to be addressed.
I’m focusing on how to optimize blockchain technology to solve these real-world problems while ensuring scalability, security, and user-friendly implementation.

How does your submission address this challenge?

My submission, the Asteroid Tracker, addresses the challenge of monitoring asteroids that may come close to Earth by using React, Python, and Flask to create an intuitive and powerful web application. The project uses real-time data from space agencies, such as NASA, to track asteroids' positions, sizes, speeds, and trajectories.
In the frontend, React is used to build a user-friendly interface where users can visualize asteroid data through interactive charts and maps. This allows users to explore detailed information on various asteroids in a simple and engaging way. The app also offers real-time updates, ensuring that the latest asteroid data is always available.
On the backend, Flask (powered by Python) processes the data, handles API requests, and performs calculations related to asteroid tracking, including trajectory predictions and risk assessments. The Flask server serves the frontend React app and ensures seamless communication between the frontend and backend, providing a smooth user experience.
The project’s impact lies in improving public awareness and engagement with planetary defense efforts. The combination of React and Flask ensures that the system is fast, scalable, and responsive. By making asteroid data more accessible and easier to understand, the Asteroid Tracker contributes to a broader effort to protect Earth from potential asteroid threats while fostering interest in space exploration.

Challenges I ran into

  1. Data Integration Challenge:
Integrating real-time asteroid data from external APIs, such as NASA's Near Earth Object database, posed a challenge. The APIs had different data formats, and ensuring consistency in the data was difficult.
Solution: I created a middleware layer in the Flask backend to normalize the data from different sources. This involved parsing the API responses and converting them into a unified format before storing them in the database. Additionally, I implemented thorough error handling to manage potential issues with API connectivity.
  2. Frontend Performance Challenge:
As the amount of asteroid data increased, the performance of the React frontend started to degrade, leading to slower load times and lag during interactions.
Solution: To optimize performance, I implemented React's memoization techniques using React.memo and useMemo to prevent unnecessary re-renders. I also used pagination and lazy loading for the data visualization components, which significantly improved the user experience by only loading data as needed.
  3. User Interface Design Challenge:
Creating an intuitive and visually appealing user interface was challenging, especially in presenting complex data in a way that users could easily understand.
Solution: I conducted user feedback sessions and usability tests to gather insights on the design. Based on the feedback, I iteratively refined the UI components, focusing on clarity and user experience. Utilizing design libraries like Material-UI helped streamline the process and provided a polished look.
  4. Deployment Issues Challenge:
Deploying the application faced several hurdles, including environment configuration and ensuring compatibility between the React frontend and Flask backend.
Solution: I set up a Docker environment to create consistent development and production setups. This allowed me to define all dependencies in a Dockerfile and a docker-compose.yml file, ensuring that both the frontend and backend worked
