AscendAI addresses the challenge of fragmented and inefficient learning experiences by offering an all-in-one platform that combines curated video content, interactive quizzes, community engagement, and personalized learning support. The inclusion of a leaderboard motivates learners by fostering a competitive environment, encouraging consistent progress, and rewarding achievements. Additionally, a chatbot trained on specific data provides on-demand assistance, offering personalized guidance, answering questions, and delivering targeted resources to help learners overcome challenges. This combination makes learning more engaging, efficient, and tailored to individual needs, solving the problem of unstructured and impersonal education.
Challenges we ran into
Ensuring Real-Time Leaderboard Updates:
One of the biggest challenges was making the leaderboard update in real time while maintaining consistency across users' devices. There were frequent delays in syncing scores during testing due to inefficient query handling in the database. We solved this by implementing Firebase’s real-time database and optimizing how updates were triggered by reducing unnecessary writes and reads.
Training the Chatbot with Relevant Data:
Training a chatbot specific to the educational context was difficult as we had to carefully curate and clean a dataset relevant to the learning topics. Initially, the bot provided generic answers that lacked accuracy. To improve this, we manually compiled domain-specific data and fine-tuned an existing NLP model to better understand user queries and provide precise responses.
