Apex fitz
Track. Train. Improve
The problem Apex fitz solves
Apex Fitz is an AI-powered fitness and sports companion that helps athletes and gym users track, understand, and improve their training from one platform.
Instead of using separate apps for running, cycling, swimming, gym workouts, progress tracking, and fitness guidance, users can manage these activities in one place.
How it makes fitness easier
Track activities: GPS tracking records running and cycling routes, distance, pace, speed, and duration.
Manage workouts: Users can record swimming sessions and strength workouts, including sets, reps, weights, laps, and distance.
Understand progress: A dashboard turns workout history into useful statistics, charts, goals, and personal records.
Get AI guidance: The Gemini-powered AI Coach can answer training and recovery questions and provide personalized suggestions based on the user's goals and activity history.
Improve exercise form: The camera-based Form Checker analyzes movements such as squats, pull-ups, push-ups, and running and provides general corrective feedback.
Train more safely: The app can highlight potential form issues and encourage users to avoid training through significant or worsening pain, while making clear that AI feedback is not a medical diagnosis.
Find fitness products: Users can discover relevant gym and sports equipment through the integrated marketplace.
The main benefit
Apex Fitz reduces the need to switch between multiple fitness apps and gives users a single place to track their activity, analyze their performance, receive AI-powered coaching, and improve their training technique.
Track. Analyze. Coach. Correct. Improve
Challenges I ran into
One of the biggest hurdles I faced was implementing real-time GPS tracking and AI-based exercise form analysis in the same application.
GPS tracking required continuously collecting location data while calculating distance, pace, speed, and route without making the app consume excessive battery. The camera-based form checker was also challenging because exercise movements need to be analyzed from video while providing useful feedback.
I solved this by separating these features into dedicated modules: using location services for GPS tracking, CameraX and pose-analysis technologies for movement detection, and Gemini for AI-powered coaching and feedback. I also designed the app so that sensitive AI operations and API keys are handled through a secure backend instead of being exposed in the Android application.
This experience taught me how to break a complex AI fitness application into smaller, manageable systems and integrate them into one platform.
