The problem Annapurna solves

Our platform brings together NGOs and individuals to address pressing social issues. Discover impactful campaigns and locate hotspots of need to make a real difference.

Every year, millions of tons of food are wasted in restaurants, hotels, and households. This not only represents a significant loss of resources but also contributes to environmental issues, such as increased greenhouse gas emissions from decomposing food in landfills. Annapurna provides a platform for food donors to easily share surplus food, reducing waste and promoting sustainability.

Many individuals and families face food insecurity, struggling to access nutritious meals. This problem is exacerbated in urban areas where the visibility of hunger may be masked. Annapurna connects those who have excess food with those who need it, ensuring that no one goes hungry due to a lack of resources.

Often, needy individuals may not know where to find available food resources, and donors may not know how to reach those in need. Annapurna bridges this gap by providing a user-friendly app that allows volunteers to report the locations of needy individuals and facilitates communication between donors and volunteers.
In many communities, there is a lack of engagement and awareness about local needs. Annapurna fosters a sense of community by encouraging individuals to participate in helping their neighbors. By mobilizing volunteers and creating a network of support, the platform strengthens community ties and promotes a culture of giving.

Inefficient Food Distribution: Traditional food donation methods can be cumbersome and inefficient, often leading to delays in getting food to those who need it. Annapurna streamlines the donation and distribution process, allowing for real-time notifications and quick responses, ensuring that food reaches those in need promptly.

By addressing these interconnected issues, Annapurna not only helps alleviate hunger.

Challenges we ran into

Coordinating food pickups and deliveries posed logistical challenges, particularly in urban areas with heavy traffic or limited access. We developed a scheduling feature within the app that allows volunteers to choose convenient pickup times and routes. Additionally, we collaborated with local organizations to create a network of volunteers who could assist with transportation.

Accurately locating and identifying individuals in need was a complex task, as many may not be visible or may be hesitant to seek help. We worked closely with local charities, shelters, and community organizations to identify areas with high concentrations of needy individuals. Additionally, we encouraged volunteers to engage with their communities to build relationships and trust, making it easier to identify those who could benefit from the program.

Sustainability and Funding: Securing ongoing funding and resources to sustain the project was a challenge, especially in the early stages. We sought partnerships with local businesses, government grants, and crowdfunding campaigns to support our operations. By demonstrating the impact of our initiative through data and success stories, we were able to attract more support and resources.
