Food for All

The problem Annapurna solves

This project aims to solve the sustainable development goal of zero hunger as well as partnership. It is the 21st century, yet, 795 million people in the world starve to sleep. And this number is expected to increase by 2 billion by the end of 2050. United Nation (UN) aims to end hunger by 2030.

We know that tons of food is wasted as leftovers after weddings, parties etc and there does not exist any proper management. Annapurna provides a platform to channelise this excess food to the needy via NGOs, NPOs or any organisation involved in social work.

  1. An NGO’s portal will show events them, so that they can reach out to them, collect the food and distribute it to the hungry.
  2. The information about events is collected via crowdsourcing, i.e, anyone can report an event happening nearby. As the exact address might not be clear to them, they can set the location on map through a pin.
  3. If the host of that particular banquet successfully donates food, their name appears on a ‘Latest Contributors’ section along with the Banquet Name. As the banquet is being promoted, it will encourage more and more of its guests to donate food.
  4. This application is not just for reporting major events like weddings, but also for people to donate the leftovers from small parties with the help of an ‘NGOs Near Me’ section. We further plan to introduce hunger hotspots as well.

According to the UN, A successful sustainable development agenda requires partnerships between governments, the private sector and civil society. This is just our bit towards making this world a better place.

Challenges we ran into

As this was the first hackathon for all of us, we face a number of difficulties while integration. The primary challenge that we faced while building this application was to fetch the location of NGOs in real time using a draggable marker that allowed the users to set the location on an interactive map. Another challenge was authenticating two schemas simultaneously using passport in our application.
