The problem AkademiAI solves
Before the project, people struggled with low motivation and weak retention in online learning environments. Most platforms offered linear course experiences without any form of gamification to sustain long-term engagement. There were no meaningful rewards for active participation, nor pathways for learners to level up or feel recognized. Additionally, access to premium expert communities was either restricted or centralized without transparency or true ownership. Users had no incentive beyond mere certification. There was also no integrated reward system that allowed learners to earn, spend, or exchange value within the platform. AkademiAI solves this by introducing a gamified learning experience, exclusive community access through NFT-based VIP rooms, and a native token (AKAI) that powers all platform transactions, rewards, and membership utilities.
Challenges I ran into
The plot twist no one saw coming was that while most of our team had strong experience in smart contract development, creating a truly seamless wallet experience for non-crypto users proved far more complex than expected. Early users were excited about earning tokens and accessing NFT-based premium groups but got confused or dropped off when asked to install external wallets or manage gas fees.
We initially assumed wallet connection would be a one-time step, but user testing revealed major friction. That’s when we pivoted and chose Base as our primary Layer 2 solution thanks to its fast transactions, low fees, and Coinbase-native wallet compatibility. We integrated embedded wallet abstraction, allowing users to sign up with just an email or social account, and automatically spin up a non-custodial wallet under the hood.
This move drastically improved onboarding, eliminated gas anxiety, and aligned with our goal of making Web3 invisible so users can just learn, earn, and grow.
