The problem TWIN-AI solves
- Many people want personalized AI models but don't have the technical skills to build or customize them. AI Twin solves this by offering an easy-to-use platform where anyone can create their own AI without coding.
- Ownership of AI has always been a grey area. AI Twin solves this by allowing users to mint their AI models as NFTs on Base Sepolia blockchain, making users the official, verified owners of their AI creations.
- Trust and transparency in AI creations are often lacking. With public models and blockchain verification, AI Twin ensures that models are traceable, transparent, and trustworthy.
- Traditional login methods are a hurdle for Web3 beginners. By integrating Base Smart Wallet for simple onboarding, AI Twin makes it easy for anyone to get started without needing extensions like MetaMask.
- High gas fees often block user participation in NFT minting. AI Twin, thanks to Base sponsorship, offers completely free NFT minting, removing cost barriers for users.
- People want instant gratification when interacting with AI. By integrating the Groq API, AI Twin ensures that conversations are ultra-fast and smooth, giving users a great chat experience.
- Existing AI personalization tools often feel disconnected from community and sharing. AI Twin fixes this by having a Public Models section, where users can explore and chat with clones created by others, increasing community engagement.
- Managing AI models is often complex. AI Twin gives users a simple dashboard where they can create, chat, manage, and view their owned AI clones all in one place.
Challenges we ran into
- Integrating Base Smart Wallet for seamless onboarding was tricky. Unlike MetaMask, it needed custom event handling and special UX flows. We solved this by studying their SDK deeply and creating a fallback authentication method if users faced any issues.
- Ensuring free NFT minting without the user paying gas fees was complicated. We had to build a sponsored transaction flow using Base Sepolia testnet faucets and ensure gasless minting worked through smart contract relayers.
- Creating a fast chat interface was a challenge because we initially tried OpenAI APIs, which had latency. We switched to Groq API after testing and achieved a major boost in chat speed and reliability.
- Training data formatting was a hurdle. Many users didn't know how to give good sample data for their AI twins. To fix this, we added simple templates for users during clone creation (e.g., "Fitness coach: Example responses"), improving AI output quality.
- Model privacy controls were buggy initially. Public/private toggle wasn't respected when querying models. We rebuilt the data schema with strict access controls to fully separate public and private models at database and API layers.
- NFT metadata storage needed a scalable solution. Storing on IPFS was the obvious choice, but integration was messy. We finally integrated Pinata, making metadata uploads stable and decentralized.
- UI responsiveness for dashboard and public models page was slow during loading many AI twins. We implemented lazy loading and pagination, improving page performance dramatically.
- User education was a challenge because blockchain + AI together is overwhelming. We added tooltips, popups, and onboarding walkthroughs to guide users step-by-step through the app.
