Advanced emergency Radio location beacon for areas without network coverage with GUI.

The problem Aidlink+ solves

In disaster-prone or remote areas, the lack of reliable communication infrastructure poses a significant challenge to search-and-rescue operations. Mobile networks are often unavailable in such regions, and traditional communication tools like handy radios are hindered by their limited range and susceptibility to interference. These communication gaps critically delay the delivery of aid and rescue, jeopardizing the safety and survival of individuals in distress

AidLink is an innovative radio transmitting beacon designed to address communication challenges in areas without network coverage or where traditional communication methods, like handy radios, face range limitations. This device is a critical tool for emergency scenarios, providing a reliable means to transmit GPS coordinates and personal information of individuals in distress.

These GPS Coordinates and Personal Data is sent to the receiver (Base Camp) over LoRa technology where the rescue alert is triggered on a web dashboard that is connected to the AidLink Receiver device so that quick help and rescue can be provided effectively and efficientlt.

The beacon’s design prioritizes energy efficiency by utilizing low-power components, ensuring an extended battery life to maximize operation time during emergencies. AidLink's robust functionality and adaptability make it indispensable in disaster management and search-and-rescue operations, offering hope and connectivity where traditional means fall short.

Challenges we ran into

LoRa Signal Inconsistency

The LoRa module sometimes failed to transmit GPS data reliably, even within expected range.

Diagnosis:

  • Improper antenna orientation and signal reflection from nearby structures.
  • Loose connections and occasional voltage drops.

Fixes:

  • Switched to a high-gain antenna.
  • Used capacitors to stabilize power.
  • Introduced retries in the transmission code and increased payload spacing.
  • Field-tested in various terrains to fine-tune transmission parameters.
