The problem AidChain solves
AidChain is a decentralized, blockchain-powered aid distribution platform designed to make charitable giving transparent, fair, and efficient. Donors send cryptocurrency directly to verified recipients, eliminating intermediaries and reducing fraud risks. Smart contracts automate donation tracking, aid applications, and fund disbursements, with every transaction publicly verifiable on the Ethereum blockchain.
Our Non-Fungible Agent (NFA) adds intelligent automation, instantly approving returning verified recipients to remove delays while maintaining security. An integrated AI-powered chatbot assists users step-by-step, explaining how to use the platform, guiding donors through the giving process, and helping recipients apply for and claim aid confidently. NFT badges reward both donors and recipients, creating a verifiable and motivational record of impact.
By merging Web3 transparency, smart contract automation, and AI-driven user assistance, AidChain delivers faster aid, builds stronger trust, and offers a scalable model for equitable, transparent humanitarian support worldwide.
Challenges we ran into
Challenges I Ran Into:
Firstly, smart contract logic & deployment
Initially, our applyForAid function had a 90-day cooldown hardcoded, which made testing slow and impractical during the hackathon. We solved this by modifying the contract to accept a configurable cooldown period, allowing us to set it to just 30 seconds for demos while keeping the original security logic intact for production.
Frontend–Blockchain Integration
We faced issues where the UI failed to reflect updated contract states in real time. This was due to missing re-fetch triggers after state-changing transactions. We overcame it by integrating TanStack Query with event-based invalidation, ensuring the dApp refreshed instantly when blockchain events were emitted.
NFA Auto-Approval Logic
Implementing the Non-Fungible Agent (NFA) auto-approval was tricky because it required off-chain listening to on-chain events and sending signed transactions automatically. We built a lightweight Node.js listener that monitored AidApplied events, applied our rules (repeat applicant + same reason/location), and triggered approveRecipient via an NFA signer wallet.
IPFS NFT Metadata Management
At first, our NFT metadata CIDs were inconsistent because files were uploaded manually and not pinned properly. We switched to Pinata API for programmatic uploads and pinning, ensuring stable, retrievable CIDs for all donor and recipient badges.
AI Chatbot Integration
Integrating the AI chatbot into the dApp UI without slowing down blockchain interactions was a challenge. We solved this by making the chatbot run entirely client-side with a separate API call flow, ensuring that Web3 calls and AI responses never blocked each other.
