Many people in India face challenges accessing justice simply because they lack awareness of their legal rights. Legal Literacy gaps and a Lack of Victim awareness are blocking the path of Justice. The government tries to provide all information through various websites, but the information is often too much for the common man to take in. Its legal jargon is difficult for a common man to understand. Nuances and intricacies often can be understood and utilised only after studying the law thoroughly. This gives the entire power to the advocates and lawyers. They often blindside people and extract exorbitant charges. Another aspect is that people are often scared to open up to lawyers or family members because of fear of judgment or taboos. For eg many girl children are inappropriately touched in public places but often hide the fact from their parents out of fear, they lack justice and those criminals lack punishment. The common people should have basic legal knowledge without having to scour the Indian Penal Code or the Constitution. A person doesn't know what his rights are, whether he is a victim or not or whether and how he can seek justice.
For that reason, we are Introducing our solution “Advocate.ai”. Legal information system for layman with multilingual support in India which promotes Victim Awareness. While developing Advocate.ai, one specific hurdle we encountered was ensuring the accuracy and reliability of the AI-powered chatbot, especially when providing legal advice and information. The challenge lay in training the chatbot to understand and interpret complex legal queries accurately, considering the nuances of Indian laws and legal language.
To overcome this hurdle, we employed a multi-step approach:
We collected extensive data from reliable legal sources, including the Indian Constitution, Indian Penal Code, and other relevant legal documents. This ensured that the chatbot had access to a vast repository of information to draw upon when responding to user queries. We collaborated with legal experts and professionals to validate the accuracy of the information provided by the chatbot. Their insights helped refine the chatbot's responses and ensure that it was delivering accurate and reliable legal advice and conducted rigorous testing of the chatbot, simulating various user scenarios and edge cases to identify any inaccuracies or shortcomings. Based on the feedback received, we continuously refined and improved the chatbot's algorithms and training data to enhance its performance. We leveraged advanced NLP techniques to enable the chatbot to understand and interpret user queries more effectively. This involved fine-tuning the chatbot's language processing capabilities to better handle the nuances and intricacies of legal language.
