Air pollution in Delhi is like the monsoon season in Mumbai, we know it’s going to happen, we know it’s going to get ugly and we even have a fair bit of Idea when it’s going to happen, yet still every year we act so surprised when it goes bad as if it is happening for the first time. There are already multiple Solutions that predict air pollution data, but none of them are leveraging to prevent it from happening in the first place. With our system in place, we are trying to Leverage that predicted data to send out automated emails containing the recommended course of action to the government authorities when the AQI is predicted to cross into the 'Very Poor' category or beyond. Also, the system has different recommendations/precautions for the general public, targeted by different localities.
The intention is to deploy the resources that the government uses every year after the AQI goes severe, beforehand to pre-empt the crisis. No additional expenditure, No additional resources just simplicity at its best so that solutions can be implemented before pollution damages the health of the general public and it can be actually implemented at a large scale, by acting as a platform that bridges the gap between the policymakers and the public.
The difficult part was to separate ourselves from the existing predictive modeling solutions, but now we are acting as enablers, making the data accessible to everyone, to provide a Social Innovation solution, as pollution is a problem that can only be solved by the combined efforts of the people and the government.
