Challenges we ran into
Transaction Failures: Building a complex healthcare management system with multiple interactions between smart contracts introduced the challenge of transaction failures. Sometimes, transactions would fail due to issues like insufficient gas, out-of-gas errors, or contract errors. We addressed this by optimizing our smart contracts, ensuring efficient gas usage, and improving error handling. In addition, we fine-tuned gas parameters to prevent out-of-gas errors and enhance transaction reliability.
Connection Problems: Establishing a reliable connection to the Ethereum blockchain was crucial for the system's real-time functionality. However, we encountered intermittent connection problems, resulting in delays and unreliable data retrieval. To overcome this, we implemented a robust retry mechanism for connecting to the blockchain, with built-in error handling and recovery procedures. This approach improved the overall system's stability.
Text Analysis for Consent Management: Implementing a text analysis system for consent management presented challenges in accurately interpreting patients' responses. Natural language processing (NLP) techniques are inherently complex, and understanding user intent from text input can be challenging. To address this, we refined our NLP algorithms, improved data validation, and conducted extensive testing to ensure accurate analysis of patient responses and consent management.
Decentralized Storage with Pinata: Utilizing decentralized storage via Pinata for storing patient data introduced a learning curve and connectivity challenges. Pinata's decentralized infrastructure provided numerous benefits, but we needed to adapt to new workflows and ensure seamless integration. We dedicated time to understanding the intricacies of Pinata, optimized our data storage processes, and established a robust monitoring system to ensure data availability and reliability.
