I’m Harith Laxman, currently pursuing Electrical and Electronics engineering as a final year student at the National Institute of Technology Tiruchirappalli. I’ve had a keen interest in CS subjects since my 10th standard and hence chose to study computer science in my 11th and 12th classes. Though I was not able to get into the Computer Science department, I always found time to study what I liked.
I’ve always wanted to create a mobile application back in my 10th standard just coz it sounded cool to make an application on your own. Though I had no proper basic knowledge that was required to make an app, this was where I got my interest in computer science, and this interest greatly developed in me in my 12th. The final lab project for computer science involved making an application for a store to manage the purchases made daily along with maintaining proper records for the transactions using basic structures and the fact that proper GUIs can be made using a basic language like C++ was fascinating.
As I started exploring the various domains, I was mainly interested in subjects like Networking, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Data Structures and Algorithms, and Web Development(Django and MERN stack). I have done a couple of MOOCs on Data Structures and Algorithms and ML and DL to have a good knowledge backbone in the above-mentioned subjects. I’ve done a couple of projects like:
(Please refer to my GitHub repos)
Python Plays NFS: Since I play a lot of video games, I've always wanted to make a bot in any video game possible and hence I tried to implement a self-driving car in a video game using CNN and OpenCV in Python.
Command-Line Chat-room service: To put my knowledge on networking to use, I built a command-line chat-room service that allows users on different computers to communicate when connected on the same network using the basic client-server model along with concepts like threading to make sure that multiple users can connect and chat to each other instead of a single-threaded one which handles only a single user.
Chef-Book: Built a website using the Django framework in python which is basically a friend-portal system for the competitive programming site CodeChef (unofficial).
And a couple more projects.
I have also worked with my batchmates in an intra-college hackathon in building an android app that facilitates easy usage of the available limited e-rickshaws in our institute efficiently so that users can pre-book, cancel and view ongoing rides so that the usage of this eco-friendly mode of transport is encouraged inside our institute instead of autos or taxis for transporting of people or luggage.
I am both intrigued and excited at the possibility of this fellowship. It would be a great learning experience and I am confident in contributing to my fullest capacity.
Hoping to hear from you soon !!
