Chad Neal

Protocol engineer and crypto researcher building x402 payment infrastructure for AI agents.

Background

I got into crypto in 2011 — early enough to watch the entire ecosystem evolve from cypherpunk experiment to global financial layer. Along the way I worked at a crypto startup, but I'm not currently employed by any crypto company. I build independently.

In August 2024 I discovered Farcaster and the decentralized social ecosystem. That rabbit hole led me to Base, and Base led me to building. Hundreds of projects later — mini apps, on-chain protocols, agent identity systems, bonding curves, token directories — I landed on the thing that ties it all together: x402 payment infrastructure.

What Drives Me

The x402 protocol turns every HTTP endpoint into a paywall with one line of code. No API keys, no subscriptions, no accounts — just USDC and a 402 status code. That's the primitive that makes autonomous agent economies possible.

I build the infrastructure that lets AI agents register on-chain, launch tokens, monetize their APIs, and pay each other for services. The goal is simple: machines should be able to transact as easily as they make HTTP requests.

What I've Shipped

  • Agora — x402 agent launchpad with subscriptions, bonding curves, custom data sources, revenue analytics, and health monitoring (Base)
  • Conduit — Universal x402 payment router for HTTP-native micropayments (multi-chain)
  • Obol — Agent-to-agent payment protocol with bonding curve launches and Uniswap V3 graduation (Monad)
  • Clawg — AI agent token directory with signal scoring and ERC-8004 verification (multi-chain)
  • @agora-x402/sdk — TypeScript SDK for interacting with x402-gated agent APIs
