Myself Aastha Bhat, a 3rd year Information Science Engineering student at Dayananda Sagar College of Engineering, and I'm excited to share with you my journey in open-source development and why Winter of Code 5.0 represents a pivotal moment in my career.

It all began with a small step into the world of coding through game development using Python, specifically with the Pygame library. Through this process, I learned the fundamentals of programming and gained valuable insights into problem-solving and logical thinking.

However, my curiosity didn't stop there. I wanted to explore more diverse topics within the realm of software development. This led me to develop full-stack applications like the Dental Management System and Manasvi—a mental wellness counselling assistant—where I utilized HTML, CSS, and JavaScript for intuitive frontends, Flask as the web server, and MySQL for robust backend data management. These projects taught me that great software isn't just about functionality; it's about creating seamless user experiences and maintaining data integrity.

As I progressed, I ventured into machine learning and sustainable computing by building SuryaVeda, a web application that predicts household electricity consumption and estimates solar power generation using advanced ML algorithms. This project deepened my appreciation for how technology can address real-world challenges like green energy adoption.

My transition to open-source began through active participation in SWOC, Aperture 2.0, and GSSOC, where I contributed meaningful PRs to CNCF projects like Layer5 (SEO enhancement), Meshery (Shape Builder blog post), and Civix (FAQ styling improvements). These experiences revealed to me the power of collaborative development.
