Onchain Summer Buildathon: Build the onchain era of the internet

Forget pool parties and barbecues (although, hey, who are we to judge your post-hackathon celebrations). This summer, it's all about getting based and bringing the world onchain.

But what does it mean? Getting based is whatever you want it to be, but if we HAD to summarize, it's about building with your crew,  leaving a legacy, and, most importantly, building bridges, not islands.

For the uninitiated, Base is a secure, low-cost, builder-friendly Ethereum L2, developed by the one and only Coinbase, to bring the next billion users onchain. It’s a tall order and that’s why we’re launching the biggest global online hackathon of the season: the Onchain Summer Buildathon—sponsored by Base and other leading builders to achieve that goal.

Let’s breeze through a quick checklist of why it’s the perfect summer activity:

• Build alongside super based judges and speakers like Jesse Pollak,  Brian Doyle, Tom Vieira, Aneri Amin, Joaquim Verges, and more.
• Build what you love with the companies you love. The Buildathon features eight diverse tracks powered by leading builders and innovators, including Stripe, Shopify, Farcaster, Zora, Fleek, thirdweb, Nouns, Aerodrome, and Synthetix.
• Newbie or OG, this is your chance to shine. Pick up new skills or shake things up and raise the bar. The rewards will continue beyond the Buildathon with opportunities like Base Builder Grants, Optimism Retroactive Public Goods Funding, and more.

The Buildathon Tracks

This Buildathon is all about diving into real, impactful onchain challenges. Each track presents a unique problem waiting for innovative solutions.  Compete for your share of 200 ETH, with each winning team standing a chance to win between 2-10 ETH in prizes.

Here’s what you can sink your teeth into:

1. Payments with Stripe: Build easy-to-use consumer payment experiences.
2. Discovery with Fleek: Develop compelling apps using the Onchain Summer Registry that help people find things to do onchain.
3. Creator with Zora: Create new and imaginative ways for onchain creativity to thrive with projects that help people create, discover, curate, and collect.
4. Commerce with Shopify: Create compelling commerce experiences for merchants with URL<> IRL tie-ins, like affiliate or loyalty programs that come alive onchain.
5. Social with Farcaster: Bring people together with social experiences that harness the potential of being onchain.
6. Gaming with thirdweb: Build onchain games with a focus on fun and mainstream adoption.
7. Unplugged with Nouns: Make a real-world impact by mixing the IRL<>URL, with a focus on community engagement and real-world impact.
8. Trading with Aerodrome and Synthetix: Develop innovative trading and investing experiences like DeFi primitives with app interoperability.

The Buildathon runs from May 31 to June 30. Register and just build it.

Okay, how to get in?

1. Register and Stake: Head over to Devfolio and register for the hackathon. You’ll need to stake a small amount of ETH (0.002) to confirm your participation. You’ll get a full refund once you submit a valid buildathon project.
