Avrust Consult,
BlockGigs is a decentralized freelance platform connecting excellent and competent African tech talents with global opportunities.
The Problems BlockGigs tackles: Limited Access to Global Opportunities: African tech professionals are often excluded from the global freelance market due to systemic biases, limited visibility, and a lack of tailored platforms to showcase their talents. Traditional freelancing sites are dominated by professionals from certain regions, leaving African freelancers disadvantaged. This gap not only limits freelancer opportunities but also deprives global clients of access to a diverse and talented pool of professionals. Hiring Bias: Bias in hiring is a persistent issue across most freelancing platforms. Clients may subconsciously prioritize candidates based on demographic factors such as race, gender, or religion rather than focusing on the skills and expertise of the freelancer. This unfair practice limits opportunities for African professionals, particularly women and marginalized communities. Complex and Costly Payment Processes: Cross-border payments for freelancers in Africa often involve significant challenges, including: High Transaction Costs: Traditional payment methods involve intermediaries that charge exorbitant fees, reducing the freelancer's earnings. Slow Processing Times: Bank transfers can take days or even weeks to process, leading to cash flow issues for freelancers. Limited Access: Many African freelancers lack access to international banking infrastructure, making it difficult to receive payments. Payment Risks: Freelancers frequently face the risk of non-payment or delayed payments from clients, especially in cases where disputes arise or projects are abandoned midway. Without secure payment systems, freelancers remain vulnerable to exploitation.
In decentralized social ecosystems like Farcaster, conversations move fast — too fast. Important casts trend and disappear in a sea of updates. Users miss the pulse of what’s truly hot unless they’re constantly plugged in. There’s no centralized way to surface trending voices, hot takes, or day-by-day recaps in a meaningful and digestible way. This leads to: Information Overload: With so many casts daily, it's hard to find what truly matters. FOMO & Fragmentation: Users feel like they’re always late to the conversation or out of sync with the broader Farcaster community. Lack of Curation Tools: There's no tool that compiles the top trending casts or contributors in a clean, structured, and time-aware manner. How This Project Improves the Experience Our Weekly Recap Mini App is the missing curation layer for Farcaster. It provides: Daily Pulse: Tracks the most engaging cast of the day, showing what sparked the most reactions. Weekly Wrap: Compiles a digest of the top trending casts, creators, and community sentiments. Hot Takes Tracker: Surfaces polarizing or widely discussed casts, creating a real-time lens into what’s stirring the community. By using algorithmic detection of engagement signals (recasts, likes, replies, timestamps), and optionally letting curators manually highlight key moments, this tool becomes a "community memory bank" and a conversation compass.

Introducing BootNode: A CLI to Bootstrap Express + MongoDB Backends in Seconds Developers often spend hours repeating the same backend setup: Installing dependencies Configuring Express Connecting MongoDB Setting up authentication Defining project structure This redundancy slows down innovation and distracts from the real work — building features. That’s why I created BootNode, a Node.js CLI framework that streamlines backend project setup. With a single command: npx bootnode <app-name> You instantly ...
