Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Hi, I'm Jayci 👋

Year 1 Computer Science student at Sunway University, 42KL cadet and a Sunway x Teach For Malaysia scholar, here at the MUBA Blockchain Hackathon to keep building in Web3.

I started coding in September 2025 and like understanding why things work, not just copying steps, so I dig into a problem until it actually makes sense. I'm comfortable close to the machine in C, apply OOP in Java and Python and build interactive web with HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Lately I've been going deep on Web3.

🎓 Education

  • BSc (Hons) Computer Science, Sunway University, Sept 2025 to present. Fully-funded scholar (Sunway x Teach For Malaysia).
  • 42KL Core Programme, Sept 2025 to present. Peer-to-peer, project-based coding school, no lectures and no teachers.

🧠 Skills

  • C (my strongest, built through 42KL)
  • Python (including OOP)
  • HTML and CSS
  • Java
  • JavaScript
  • AI: prompting, chatbots, RAG and applying AI to real customer-facing problems
  • Currently exploring: Blockchain and Web3 development

I'm also comfortable leading and organising, from running community workshops to event logistics, PR and MC-ing a pitch day.

🚀 Featured projects

LoCor AI, UM Hackathon 2026 (17th place)

An AI-powered business intelligence platform for SMEs. Upload your sales sheets, inventory logs and company description, and get actionable insights, competitive pricing strategies, automated Word and Excel reports and a live AI consultant, all in one place.

  • Tech: React 19 (Vite), FastAPI, ChromaDB for RAG, SQLite, Redis, Resend API, Z.ai GLM-4.5-Flash
  • Highlights: Retrieval-Augmented Generation over your own business data, live competitor pricing analysis with margin and break-even, automated report generation and email delivery
  • Team of 4 · Link: github.com/wz-Tan/LoCor_AI

PALMARA, UM Deep Tech Challenge (Best User-Centric Solution, 55 teams)

An AgriTech solution that uses 3D LiDAR scanning and AI to detect early signs of Basal Stem Rot in oil palm trees. The challenge was to take a real IP from Universiti Malaya's library and turn it into something commercially viable, so we researched feasibility, business models, user pain points, cost and scalability before building.

  • Why agriculture: oil palm plays a major role in Malaysia's economy, so we wanted a real local problem with scalable impact
  • My first startup-oriented and first overnight external hackathon, built with Team Sunway Kaki over 48 hours

Genesis Handbook (Co-founder)

A free, open and non-profit guide to what actually decides hackathons, built from the real, hard-won advice of people who've competed and won. It covers finding and building a team, splitting roles, managing deadlines, owning demo day, understanding judging and simply getting started, plus core Web3 concepts such as wallets, gas fees, smart contracts and the difference between Layer 1 and Layer 2.

  • Vision: a world where no one with the passion to build is held back just because they don't know where to start
  • Role: Co-founder and organiser. I run contributor recruitment, the Contributor Wall and the content pipeline, and I MC'd our pitch day, "Genesis Handbook: Your Hackathon Map", in June 2026.
  • Shipped: Version 1 went live in July 2026 with more than 50 tips from contributors, and the project keeps growing

Pawfee Café Website

Led a 4-person team to build a full multi-page café website for WEB1201. Designed the shared CSS design system, built the multi-step membership registration with client-side validation and coordinated the team on GitHub.

  • Tech: HTML, CSS, JavaScript

42KL C projects

Low-level work that built my fundamentals in pointers, memory and algorithms.

  1. libft, rebuilt over 40 standard C library functions from scratch, including string, memory and linked list operations
  2. ft_printf, recreated C's printf with multiple format specifiers and edge cases using variadic functions
  3. push_swap, a sorting algorithm using two stacks and a limited instruction set, optimised with the Turk sort approach

🌐 My Web3 journey

Through ETHGlobal 2026 I started Web3 as a complete newcomer and learned the fundamentals from the ground up, including how Layer 1 chains such as Ethereum secure transactions and run smart contracts, and how Layer 2 rollups make transactions faster and cheaper while inheriting that security. I turned that learning into the Genesis Handbook so other newcomers can start with confidence. The MUBA Blockchain Hackathon is the next step.

I've also explored the Web2 side at AmBank HackLab 2.0, building an AI platform to help banking customers resolve enquiries faster and rely less on waiting for human support.
