Last August, we were honoured to welcome 400+ attendees to the first Ethereum hackathon in Asia, and what a weekend it was! Highly talented individuals gathered from all over India, and other parts of the globe, in Bangalore to hack their creative ideas on the Ethereum blockchain. The event brought together many projects from around the world who came to support the event by mentoring, judging and sponsoring.
The weekend kicked off with a day of tech talks and presentations by some of the leading projects and figures in the space such as NuCypher, Maker, Status, ConsenSys, Dharma, Web3 Foundation, Quantstamp and many more! In this way, hackers were given an overview on some of the platforms they could build their hacks on and were introduced to dApps and projects they might not have otherwise been exposed to.
In total, 53 projects were submitted. The 99% submission rate highlights the drive, energy and creativity we have in the community. The winning projects included a land registry system, a decentralised map, and one already built and being used is InstaDApp ; a decentralised bank built on Maker. It was not surprising that the judges were torn among so many great ideas!
ETHIndia also hosted a casual meet-up for women in the space. It was a chance for the female developers to share their stories, ask questions to other women and discuss what challenges they face in the community. Initiatives like these are far and few in this community so it is something we continue to support and hope to build on in the future.
With this being said, we are very excited to announce the next edition of the hackathon; ETHIndia will be happening again this August 2–4 in Bangalore! There is a brand new website with all the details on the event, and applications to hack are now open through Devfolio, so check it out. If you aren’t a hacker, or you are a project that would like to find another way to support and join the event, feel free to drop us a line.
We look forward to welcoming the next group of hackers to Bangalore to continue the success of ETHIndia!
