I am currently a fourth year Computer Engineering student at VIT(affiliated to Mumbai University). With no formal education in Data Science, I like to call myself a self taught data scientist to the core. I have had the opportunity to acquaint myself with the entire data process life cycle while implementing 5 end to end analytics projects over the course of my learning path. As a part of my internship at CNS Bank (Mumbai), I was instrumental in the implementation of a project titled: “Customer Churn Analytics for Chembur Nagrik Sahakari Bank”, where I got a first-hand experience at solving the problem of customer churn, a rampant business problem of the industry. Prior to the implementation of this project, it is only after a customer had churned, that CNS bank would take an active stance on the matter in an attempt to win back that same customer. The new approach adopted by the project was based on the philosophy that customer acquisition is costlier than customer retention. I was involved in analyzing the customer data of 7000 customers of the bank across 23 factors to zero-in on the most statistically significant factors that impacted the customer churn at CNS Bank. Thus, I developed a predictive model to predict the likelihood of customer churn for individual customers. This project culminated in a project report which aided the marketing team of the bank in devising its marketing strategy, focused on customer retention. This internship experience at CNS Bank made me realize that data analytics, not only enabled me to solve a business problem, but also to positively impact the organization and the society as a whole. It is this epiphany, that I too could positively impact the society, that made me feel empowered. Thus, I decided to pursue data analytics as a career path.
