Hritvi Bhandari

From the very beginning of my educational life, I have been a fast learner and was always reading about new technologies coming to the market and in research. Things, like working with bleeding edge technology and making cool stuff out of it, has always enlightened me. My curiosity and enthusiasm for technology have given me an opportunity to be a developer at SDSLabs in IIT Roorkee, which is a small group of students that fosters the growth of software development in our campus. Being a developer at WatchOut, the official magazine of WatchOut, I also maintain its website.

In my first year at IIT Roorkee, I tried my hands on exploring the various fields of Computer Science to figure out where my passion lies.

In Deep Learning, I have done a project implementing Faster-RCNN for Face-Detection in python using Tensorflow under the guidance of Dr. Biplab Banerjee at IIT Bombay.

Being in Programming and Algorithms Group(PAG), I regularly participate in contests on platforms like codeforces and codechef.

I along with my team created a game based on AR/VR which was developed on Unreal Engine and tested on Oculus Rift. It was selected among the top three applications from 92 applications in the Microsoft Code.Fun.Do Online Round. I also participated in HackInOut where my team made a Dapp in which we integrated voting system on blockchain.

Apart from this, I also love the concept of open source and wanted to contribute for the same. I have been trying to contribute in the small ways I could, by having all my projects on GitHub so that others can benefit from the same and trying to fix minor bugs that I can. I have been an active contributor in Mozilla in projects like Firefox Accounts, Addons etc.

While of this now I have experience with C++, PHP, HTML/CSS, MySQL, JavaScript, Java.

I have also worked on CodeVillage(codevillage.sdslabs.co), being the most complex project until now. It is an online coding platform to hold regular competitive coding contests that can handle worldwide participation. I added a Pseudo Admin panel for conducting closed contests and created an optimized way for handling test cases.

I have also taken part in many hackathons held in our campus, some of which are SDS Campus Hackathon and Microsoft Code.fun.do online and offline rounds.

Hackathons provides a good platform to dive right into the middle of developing a software with the opportunity to work with the core developers. This makes me excited and eager to participate in it.
