Hot off the wheels of the wild rollercoaster ride that was the Onchain Summer Buildathon, Base is again ready to champion innovation, creativity, and freedom, and this time across the globe. Base is going global, and we’re hyped to once again do this tango with them!

Base is for everyone who wants to build a better internet. Based Around The World, their series of buildathon have kicked off in regions with some of the fastest growth in onchain adoption—Africa, India, Southeast Asia, and Latin America—running parallelly from September 27 to October 13.

We're calling all builders who are either from these regions or have a deep understanding of the challenges faced by these communities. If you're intimately familiar with the local context, culture, and issues in any of these regions, we want you to participate.

Looking within your community 🏣

The secret about solving big problems? Start small. Really small. Like, your-neighborhood small. The world doesn't need another app that promises to change everything. It needs solutions that actually work for real people, in real places. Those frustrating little things in your community that everyone complains about but no one fixes? That's your goldmine. And with onchain technology, you've got a new set of tools to tackle them.

But here's the kicker: you can't solve a problem you don't understand. That's why we're not asking you to solve just any problem; we want you to solve the problems around you—because you know exactly which street vendor always runs out of change or which local service is still stubbornly paper-based. If you’re wondering, “How's that going to change the world?" here's a thought: What if Uber was born because two friends couldn’t find a taxi on a snowy Paris evening? Oh wait, it did.

The best ideas often look small at first. They solve a specific problem for a specific group of people. But if that solution is good enough, it scales. And suddenly, you're not just helping your neighbourhood—you're helping neighbourhoods everywhere.

So build for your community or a community whose challenges you understand well and win prizes from a 100 ETH pool from Base!

Following the buildathons, Jesse Pollak (Creator, Base) and the Base team will meet in person with builders in Nairobi, Bangalore, Bangkok, Singapore, and Manila, as well as virtually in Buenos Aires. Dates for each event will be announced soon. We’ll be concluding the buildathon series with a grand finale at Devcon in Thailand!

If you don’t see your city in this list or can’t make it to any of these, you can apply to host a Base meetup to bring together builders in your community.

So, what’s the challenge this time?

Build an onchain app that solves a challenge in your community, or use existing onchain tools to create real-world impact in your community by bringing them onchain. We want to see how onchain can make an actual difference where you live. What’s bugging your local community? How can blockchain help? Think of solutions that can grow and thrive long after the buildathon ends. Scalable, impactful, ambitious. If you’re looking for ideas, here are a few places to start:

  • Help people come together, connect, and collaborate more easily — onchain or IRL.
  • Unlock access to social and educational resources.
  • Build tools that provide easier access to the onchain economy.
  • Create localized social or e-commerce apps.
  • Create platforms that empower creators to share their work (or, if you're a creator yourself, share your own).
  • Make a blog, write a blog post, create a YouTube or TikTok video, or other content showing how you're making an impact and bringing your community onchain.

💰 Rewards and Prizes

Base is for everyone, and this buildathon is no different. It’s not just about building onchain; it’s about building the future, solving real challenges, and making the world a better place with the tools we have.

And yes, we’re putting our ETH where our mouth is:

  • From the total prize pool of 100 ETH, each region will have a prize pool of 25 ETH (~$57k USD), with 2–8 winners selected from each region. In addition, Talent Protocol will contribute 10B $BUILD, split evenly across all winners.
  • Connect with some of the most prolific Base builders in your region with direct access to the Base team.
  • Winning projects will get a shoutout from #0001 builder and Creator of Base, Jesse Pollak, at the Based meetups across the globe.
